“Voices of Resistance”: Performative signals to question concepts of teaching and learning in university music education Lecture as a part of the “Paris Conference on Arts & Humanities”, 16–19 June, 2023, Paris
18:00 Lecture with Film Screenings
Venue: La Maison da la Chimie, Paris
The paper refers to the topic of the Paris Conference 2023, New Revolution, in the sense of some original aspects of meaning of revolutio (Latin): upheaval, redesign, turnaround. In detail, it is about a redesign of existing teaching and learning cultures in music-artistic university education. The implementation platform for the “Voices of Resistance” are video-documented projects at various art universities in German-speaking countries, initiated and accompanied by the author of this paper.
The people who essentially shape the projects are students from different musical artistic disciplines. What unites the “Voices” are their common concerns: They protest against one-sided Eurocentric art and knowledge production, especially in the vocal and instrumental main subjects of their music studies, and demand a reorientation and a more open redesign of existing music arts courses. The artistic means of the young protesters are their performative skills with their various vocal, instrumental, physical-dance expression and public presentation forms (see film documentaries).
